Man how we love a sweet sweep here in Phila!!!!!

Friday's game had out Phighten Philles as underdogs going in against starter Jose Hernandez. . . and the Phils responded by knocking him around in one of the worst starts in his career beating Miami 6-3.  Fernandez, last season's NL Rookie of the Year, was tagged for eight hits and a career-worst six earned runs in four-plus innings. The right-hander walked four, matching a career high, and struck out six. He gave up only one run over 18 innings in three appearances against Philadelphia last season.  And things looked like they could get hairy when Phillies starter AJ Burnett left in the 4th with a groin pull. . . however he was at an alarmingly high pitch count at that time with 106.

Byrd, Utley, and Rollins each with 2 hits provided the offense but the hero of the game - was the guy that got the W.   Jake Diekman relieved Burnett in the 4th and was treated to walking to the mound with to enter the game in a 1 out, bases loaded jam.  He promptly fanned the next 2 Mia batters, saving the inning, the lead, and ultimately the game.  The bullpen held up nicely Fri night and Papelbon retired his 3 in the 9th to preserve the win.

Saturday night there was a bit more drama at CBP.  With Rollins and Utley on fire at the moment, you knew that one of these 2 would have a hand in a win over the weekend.

Jonathan Pettibone, making his first start since last July, looked strong going 5 giving up 1 ER and striking out 5 . . before being chased by a tape measure shot by Giancarlo Stanton into Ashburn Alley.

The pen gave up the lead, and then held Miami scoreless down the stretch until Rollins came to the plate in the 10th.  He had a bit of "rabbit ears" at the plate hearing a heckling (certainly drunk) fan behind the plate giving him a rough time of it.  He responded by drilling a 2-2 pitch off Dan Jennings into the seats in left and flipping his bat and turning around to tell the aforementioned fan to shut the f**K up.  Only Jimmy's 2nd walk off HR in his career. . . . Way to GO J-RO"!!!!!  Love it!!!

Side note - I gave Scott Rolen a similar kind of hassle several times when he had the hot corner for us. . .and it never motivated HIM to step up his performance. . . just sayin.

Game 3 - Some surprises and then some.

Revere out for the 3rd straight game, giving Tony Gwynn Jr a chance at the lead off spot. . and he is DEFINITELY making the most of it!  Gwynn going 3-5 on Sunday. . . and yes, that is exactly what you need from a leadoff man.  Hoping that we wont be seeing Revere in there for a while.

Kendrick had a nice outing going 6 and giving up 2 ER and while fanning 7.  Utley had 3 hits including his 3rd HR of the year breaking the 3-3 tie - raising his average to .500.  And the bullpen did a brilliant job down the stretch with the combination of Rosenberg, Bastardo, and Papelbon pitching 3 scoreless combined to secure the win.

Couple side notes to the weekend:

Which is worse - watching Ryan Howard run the bases or watching Ryan Howard try to play the field?  Both are brutal to watch.  3 errors for Howard this weekend if I counted correctly?  Wow. . . .

Rhyno won a key replay challenge on Sat saving a couple guaranteed runs, by challenging a force out at 2nd that the umpire crew DID overturn.  Nice work there.

Wil Nieves, catching to give Ruiz a day off, goes 3-4 with 2 RBI's.  Love to see a guy get a chance like that and make the most of it.

Our Phillies lead the National League in walks with 43. . .and drew 6 free passes this weekned against Miami.  Baserunners are KEY guys. . . that is the way to work those counts!!!!

Great job boys. . . Atlanta on deck. . . lets get em!!!!!!
