The Phillies Opened the 2013 Regular season tonight against the Atlanta Braves from Turner Field in Atlanta. The scheduled pitching matchup was Cole Hamels vs. Braves Tim Hudson. The lineup that Phillies manager Charlie Manuel put together was the following:
The first pitch of game came at 7:14 PM to Ben Revere for Ball 1. Phillies went down in order to start game. During the braves 1st inning Cole Hamels was rushing his pitches a little, Hamels recorded his first strikeout of game when he got Justin Upton looking, Braves scored the game first 2 runs of game on a Home run from Freddie Freeman.
In the 2nd inning, the Phillies got their first base runner when new third baseman Michael Young drew a walk, the Phillies first hit of the season also came in the 2nd inning from Dom Brown with a base hit. Braves get out of jam. During the game, Phillies radio announcer Scott Franzke said that "Someone needs to get that Mustache back on Cole Hamels". Cole Hamels was supporting a mustache during spring training, to start the regular season; Hamels got rid of the scathe. Braves add another run in 3rd inning from a home run from Dan uggla. End of 2 innings, braves were out to a 3-0 lead. Ben Revere got his first stolen base as a Phillies in the 3rd inning. Braves add a run in 3rd inning to take a 4-0 lead.
The Phillies get their first run of the season from a Solo Home run from chase Utley & in the process; Utley hit his 200th career homerun & chased Braves starter Tim Hudson from the game, went 4.1 innings. Cole Hamels hits a Base hit in the 5th inning. Chase Utley hits a 2 run single in the 5th inning to cut the braves lead down to 4-3. Braves Justin Upton Hits HR in the 5th inning to increase braves lead to 5-3. Cole Hamels was done after 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. Braves add 2 runs in 6th inning with base hits from Gerald Laird & Reed Johnson to go up 7-3. Chase Utley hits a Triple in the 7th inning, Ryan Howard with RBI Groundout to bring Utley home, Phillies down 7-4. John Mayberry hits a double in the 8th inning & Erik Kratz with RBI Base Hit to make it 7-5 game, Braves closer Craig Kimbrel comes in & shuts the Phillies down in order in the 9th inning for the save, Braves beat Phillies 7-5. Chase Utley finished a double short of cycle. The Phillies turn to Roy Halladay in Game 2 of series on Wednesday at 7:10 PM.
