The Phillies & New York Mets played game 2 of their 3 game series from Citizens Bank Park. The scheduled pitching matchup was Cliff Lee vs. vs. Mets Dillon Gee. Charlie Manuel keep the same lineup from last night except for the catcher position, Erick Kratz was back behind the plate for the game.
Phillies starter Cliff Lee first pitch to start the game was a strike. The first runs of the game came in the bottom of 2nd inning when John Mayberry hits a RBI double to left scoring Michael Young & Domonic Brown to make it 2-0, Pitcher Cliff Lee helps his cause with RBI single to center scoring John Mayberry to make it 3-0, Jimmy Rollins doubles to right scoring Cliff Lee to make it 4-0.
The Phillies offense would then explode in the 3rd inning, Ryan Howard hits his 1st home run of season, Michael Young Follows Howard by going Back to Back Home runs to make it 6-0, and John Mayberry hits a line drive home run for one of his 3 RBIs on the night to make it 7-0 in the 3rd inning. The last time the Phillies hit three homers in an inning was July 23, 2011 vs. San Diego Padres. That was enough for Mets Manager Terry Collins who pulls Mets starter Dillon Gee after getting roughed up for 7 runs on 10 hits in only 3 innings of work, shortest start of his career.
The Mets finally get on the board with a 2 run home run from catcher John buck in the top of 4th inning. The Phillies add another run in the bottom of 4th inning when Michael Young triples scoring Chase Utley makes it 8-2. The Mets would add another run in the top of 5th inning when Cliff Lee throws a wild pitch & Mets Jordany Valdespin scores to make it 8-3. Cliff lee would take over the rest of way. Cliff lee gets the first 2 outs of 9th inning then gives up 2 hits, then Charlie Manuel pulls Cliff lee and not letting him get the complete game, I would have left Lee in to get the complete game. Mike Adams comes in and takes 3 pitches to end the game; Phillies beat the Mets 8-3 to tie up this three game series.
Cliff Lee Final Line vs. Mets: 8 2/3 innings on 8 hits, 3 runs 6 strikeouts with ERA of 1.08 on 106 pitches. Mets Starter Dillon Gee went 3 innings, on 10 hits, 7 runs with era of 7.71 on 56 pitches. Phillies Michael young was a double short of hitting for the cycle. The Phillies close out 3 game series on Wednesday at 7PM with Kyle Kendrick facing Mets Jeremy Hefner.
