The Phillies & Reds played the final game of 3 game series from Citizens Bank Park. The Scheduled pitching matchup was Jonathan Pettibone vs. Reds Homer Bailey. Charlie Manuel made changes to the lineup, Michael Young got the start at 1st base giving Ryan Howard the day off, Freddy Galvis got the start at 3rd base, and Laynce Nix got the start in right field.
Phillies pitcher Jonathan Pettibone first pitch to Reds Shin-Soo Choo to start the game was a Strike. The first runs of game came in top of 2nd inning when Reds Jay Bruce led off the inning by hitting a solo home run for a 1-0 lead. When Freddy Galvis hit a single, catcher Carlos Ruiz was injured in going to 3rd base & was taken out of game with injury & Erik Kratz took over as the catcher to start the 3rd inning. The Reds would add another run in the 6th inning when Todd Frazier hits double to right scoring Joey Votto for a 2-0 lead. The Phillies finally get on the board in the 8th inning when Chase Utley singles to left scoring Ben Revere to make it 2-1 reds going to 9th inning. The Phillies sent in Antonio Bastardo held the reds scoreless in 9th inning, The Reds brought in Aroldis Chapman to close the game, Delmon Young draws a walk & Charlie Manuel sent out Cliff Lee to pinch run for Delmon & Lee got picked off for 1st out of 9th inning. But Erik Kratz redeemed Lee with a home run to tie the game at 2. But the Phillies weren't done yet as was Freddy Galvis knocks one out for a walkoff homerun as the Phillies come from behind for a 3-2 win and take two out of three from Cincinatti.
Pitcher Jonathan Pettibone went 7 innings 7 hits, 2 runs 4 strikeouts on 104 pitches, Reds pitcher Homer Bailey went 7 innings 5 hits, 0 runs 3 strikeouts on 96 pitches. Post game it was announced that Ryan Howard will have a precautionary MRI on his left knee on Monday; Carlos Ruiz will also have MRI on his strained right hamstring on Monday. The Phillies now head down to Miami for a series with the Marlins which starts on Monday at 7:10 PM when the Phillies send Cole Hamels to face Marlins Alex Sanabia
