It was just another day at the office for Phillies ace Cliff Lee as he goes out with another dominating performance on the mound. The first runs of game came in the top of 1st inning when Michael Young hits a solo home run for his 2nd of the year to give the Phils a 1-0 lead but you can't count Boston out yet. The Red Sox responded in the bottom of 1st inning when Dustin Pedroia singles to right scoring Jacoby Ellsbury to tie the game at 1.It was a pitchers dual at Fenway until the Phillies would finally add another run in the top of 7th inning when Erik Kratz singles to center scoring John Mayberry for a 2-1 lead.
During the 8th inning, Phillies radio analyst Larry Anderson said that “you never feel real safe with a 1 run lead at Fenway Park" Cliff Lee would strike out Jacoby Ellsbury to end the 8th inning, The Phillies would then add one for good measure in the 9th inning when Domonic Brown goes yard for his 11th of 2013 to extend the Phillies lead to 3-1. And boy this kid is on a tear of late. He is really emerging into a quality player on this ball club. Brown is picking up the slack and leads the Phils in both home runs(11) and RBIs(30) Jonathan Papelbon comes in the 9th inning & gets David Ortiz to ground out to end the game, Phillies beat Red Sox 3-1 and split the 2 game set in Boston.
Cliff Lee was dealing all night, Lee would have 4 separate times having a 1-2-3 inning, Cliff Lee night vs. Red Sox: 8 innings, 4 hits, 1 run 8 strikeouts on 95 pitches to improve to 6-2 on the year. Red Sox Starter Ryan Dempster went 7 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 4 strikeouts on 98 pitches.
