After splitting the first 2 games, the Phillies & Mets played game 3 of 4 game series from Citi Field. Before the game, The Pitching matchup was Cole Hamels vs. Mets Daisuke Matsuzaka. Ryne Sandberg made changes to the lineup, Roger Bernadina in center & leading off the game, Jimmy Rollins bats 2nd, Michael Young batting 5th & at 1st base , Carlos Ruiz catching & bats 4th, Cody Asche at 3rd, Pete Orr got start in left field for Darin Ruf & Mayberry in Right.
The Game 1st hit came from Mets Juan Lagares in the bottom of 1st inning with double to left. Cody Asche would reach base in 2nd inning on fielding error by first baseman Ike Davis. The Phillies 1st hit of game came from Chase Utley with single to left in the 3rd inning, Cody Asche would also extend his hitting streak to 9 games with a base hit to right in 7th inning. The 1st runs of game came in the bottom of 3rd inning when Ike Davis singles to left scoring Eric Young for early 1-0 lead. The Phillies would respond in the 4th inning when Jimmy Rollins doubles to left scoring Pete Orr to tie game at 1, while on the play, Rollins gets thrown out at 3rd base. The Phillies would add more in the 5th inning when John Mayberry gets hit by pitch with bases loaded, scoring Carlos Ruiz to give Phillies a 2-1 lead, then Cole Hamels would single to left scoring Michael Young & Cody Asche to make it 4-1 Phillies. The Phillies were not done yet; Carlos Ruiz hits solo home run to left in 6th inning making it 5-1 Phillies & in the process, Ruiz won someone $1,000 in the Philadelphia Daily news Homerun Payoff from SportsRadio 94 WIP & Talk Radio 1210 WPHT.
Phillies Cody Asche would get hurt while hitting a base hit to right & came up limping after hurting his right hamstring. The Mets would add another un in 7th inning when Andrew Brown doubles to left scoring Daniel Murphy to cut Phillies lead to 5-2. Phillies would add an insurance run in 9th inning when Kevin Frandsen reaches on a fielding error by pitcher Scott Atchison which scored John McDonald to make it 6-2 Phillies. Jake Diekman comes in & throws a scoreless 9th inning, Phillies win 6-2.
P Cole Hamels went 7 innings, 9 hits, 2 runs, 8 strikeouts on 114 pitches. Mets Daisuke Matsuzaka went 4.1 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 5 strikeouts on 110 pitches.
