Mcnabb To Retire An Eagle
On Monday evening during his radio show on NBC Sports Network, former Eagles Quarterback Donovan Mcnabb informed the world that this upcoming season he will retire and sign a one day contract to retire in midnight green.
There is no confirmation on when this ceremony will take place but word on the street is the Eagles suggested doing it the week that former Eagles coach and the man that selected Mcnabb with the 2nd overall pick in 1999, Andy Reid comes to town with his new team the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football.
The 36 year old McNabb played 11 seasons(1999-2010) with the Eagles, leading them to six division titles, five NFC Championship games, and one Super Bowl appearance while racking up a 92-49-1 record in the regular season and winning a franchise record for a Eagles quarterback 9 wins in the postseason(9-7 postseason record). He completed 59 percent of his passes for 37,276 yards, 234 touchdowns, and 117 interceptions, all franchise records. McNabb also ran for 29 touchdowns on the ground, finishing with a respectable 85.6 QB rating. He was also voted by the fans in 2007 as the Eagles All-Time Greatest Quarterback as a part of their 75th anniversary celebration. He finished his career in short stints with Washington and Minnesota. He hasn't played a down since 2011 but has worked out for a few teams since then but never caught a break. In meantime he has worked a a analyst for major networks, ESPN, NFL Network, and NBC Sports.
There are still a bulk of fans that are for Mcnabb and a bunch that are against him. He is one of the most controversial athletes in the City of Philadelphia despite all of his accomplishments because of his reputation for coming up "short" in big moments. Yes he came close so many times without finishing the job but it shouldn't take away from what he has done. He is a man among the fan base that rightfully deserves this and fans should finally show their appreciation from taking this team from the depths of hell and making this team a contender. We all know this fan base so the question is cheer or boo?
Eagles Sign RB Jones
You can smell it in the air that football is just around the corner! The Eagles were one of a handful of teams that officially started their OTAs on Monday at the Novacare Complex. Chip Kelly said numerous times he likes what he is seeing out of this group and their ability to adjust to the new schemes very quickly. Well the Eagles weren’t done adding talent signing a former 2008 first round draft pick.
On Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Birds and former Cowboys running back Felix Jones agreed to a 1-year deal to bring in competition to battle with second year man Bryce Brown and un-drafted rookie free agent Miguel Maysonet to backup Lesean McCoy.
The 26 year old spent five years in Big D racking up almost 3800 yards of offense and 15 total touchdowns in 64 games(23 starts). The main issue with Jones is his ability to stay healthy. His nickname isn’t “Fragile Felix” for nothing. But he can fit what new Eagles Chip Kelly wants to do and be productive doing in. It’s no fluke that this kid has a 4.8 career yard per carry average.
He brings great speed out of the backfield and is a threat not only in the running game but the passing game as well bringing in 127 balls throughout in tenure in Dallas. He does have ball security issues fumbling 10 times which doesn’t go well for the Eagles since they already have Bryce Brown who had similar problems last season. But the Eagles brass has been working on the problem.
